Last night I randomly enjoyed some childhood nostalgia by streaming the very first episode of the original Knight Rider. You need something more recent? My wife’s been catching up with The Office and 30 Rock so this fall she can join her girlfriends for Thursday night TV night.

Hi folks! Two bits of news to discuss today here on Watch Free Movies Online.

First of all I’ve added another review to the site, which you can access through my Download Movies Legally section or go directly to it here: Vongo Review.

And while also working on tutorials for these various services (some of them aren’t very grandpa friendly), I’m having a hard time keeping up with the changes.

When I first started using Netflix’s Watch Instantly service, you could search and watch movies and televsion shows through the web. Then they added Roku, a set top player that allows you to watch moves and television through Netflix’s streaming video service in the comfort of your living room.

Now they’ve taken it a step further and integrated their streaming service with the Xbox 360. It costs nothing more for Netflix subscribers, so if you’re already receiving those distinct red envelopes stuffed with DVDs in the mail and you’re an Xbox 360 owner, then you instantly have access to a large library of movies and television shows available to stream and watch through your Xbox 360.

Mind you, I haven’t yet completed my full review of Netflix’s streaming service (they keep changing & improving!), but I have to admit I’m impressed with their overall offerings. And at the very least, I thought it appropriate I announce this new integration with the Xbox 360.

It’s an interesting move for Microsoft as well. Instead of developing a blu-ray player like the one the Playstation 3 uses, they’re emphasizing streaming and downloadable content. It’s an interesting tactic but we’ll have to see how this all pans out.

I’ve just completed two comprehensive reviews of the Amazon Unbox service and CinemaNow’s similar service. Yes, you can now legally and easily watch movies on the internet through services such as these.

You’ll find these new reviews under the Downloading Movies Legally section.

Each of these established major players enter the market with thousands of movies and television shows you can stream and download to your PC, your living room or your portable device. However, they have different selections and different methods for handling all these chores.

I’ve spent quite a bit time with each to give you very detailed reviews for these services. I have additional reviews coming for other competing services, including Netflix (yes, they offer streaming video in addition to their traditional mailed DVDs), Vudu, Vongo, iTunes, MovieLink, BitTorrent (the official BitTorrent site) and Xbox Live.

It’s been really interesting testing and playing with all these services. I would say the one thing I’ve learned is that there isn’t a single service to rule them all yet. This may seem inconvenient, but it also means they’re all growing and improving while they endure intense competition from one another.

Having said that, I think you’ll definitely see that some services are quite a bit further along in this competition than others. Which ones? Well, you’ll have to at least skim my reviews:

I know it seems like I’m contradicting myself, but with the proliferation of broadband connections and the shift in Hollywood to supporting more progressive means of getting their work into customer’s hands, you really should look into these services. Watch Free Movies Online debuts!

Welcome to the first post of my Watch Free Movies Online blog!

At one point I considered naming this site Beyond YouTube because so many people get caught up in the major sites that they fail to discover the many smaller, much higher quality sites available to watch movies free online. And you’ll find more than movies! Many of the better services not only allow you to watch tv online, but you can watch television stations from all over the country and even all over the world.

I’ll roll out my comprehensive reviews of all these services over the course of the next couple months. I will also include some lessons and essays on how this all works, as well as some editorials on the condition of internet-distributed media in today’s pop culture. I’ll try not to get too controversial, but like all human beings, I do have some strong opinions.
